Although he never played high school basketball, Southwestern Oklahoma State forward Dennis Rodman was good enough to be picked 27th overall in the 1986 NBA Draft. Nicknamed "Worm" for his tendency to wiggle around while playing pinball, Rodman grew to be a major rebounding and defensive menace under the tutelage of coach Chuck Daly, winning two consecutive Defensive Player of the Year awards and several rebounding titles.

- Drafted 2nd round, 27th overall, by Detroit in 1986 out of Southwestern Oklahoma State
- Led league in field goal percentage with 59.5%, 1989
- NBA Defensive Player of the Year, 1990
- NBA first team all-defense, 1989 and 1990
- Traded to the San Antonio Spurs for Sean Elliott and David Wood on October 1, 1993
