Team captain Isiah Thomas was the main force of the hunger for a world title. Thomas attended Indiana University, leading the Hoosiers to the NCAA title in 1981. Isiah was instrumental in bringing his good friend and fellow Chicago native Mark Aguirre to Detroit in a trade that sent the disgruntled Adrian Dantley to the Dallas Mavericks, a trade which prompted Dantley to meet Isiah at halfcourt before tipoff of the first game between the two teams and whisper, "I'll never forgive you for what you've done to me."
